Seattle Film Critics Society PNW Awards 2026
Powwow People immerses us in a single day at a powwow, guided by Reuben Little Head’s humor and heart, culminating in a long take honoring community as privilege.
Director Sky Hopinka scheduled to attend, with post-film Q&A moderated by critic Eric Zhu (The Insert, Drink in the Movies).
As an immersive, observational story, Powwow People invites audiences to witness the unfolding of a powwow over the course of a single day. Emcee Reuben Little Head is the perfect guide, grounded, generous, and often hilarious. The film's final 30-minute long take is deeply inclusive, creating space for viewers to simply be present with community. It's a powerful reminder that to witness in this way is a privilege and a blessing.

“the audience is the real winner for the privilege of having shared the company of so many talented people, the rich textures and engaging sonic environment of a powerful summer day’s gathering” – Josh Bis, The SunBreak
