⛷️ Ski Pass Night: Downhill 101 for Total Beginners

About this event

Ski Pass Night is for anyone who's never skied or snowboarded, or tried it once and wasn't sure how to keep going. We'll keep it simple and friendly: a short talk on how resort skiing works around Seattle, a look at the pass and ticket options, and plenty of time for your questions. No experience needed, and no gear required.

Come with your questions, and leave with a plan and a few new people to ride with.

What we'll cover

• The local mountains: what's within a couple of hours of Seattle and which ones are friendliest for beginners

• Passes vs. lift tickets: how season passes, multi-resort passes and day tickets work, and how to tell which makes sense for how often you'll go

• Deadlines to know: when prices usually go up, so you don't pay more than you need to

• Lessons: why a lesson on day one makes everything easier, and what beginner lesson packages usually include

• Gear: what to rent, what to buy, and what you probably already own

• Dressing for the PNW: layering for cold, wet mountain days

• Getting there: driving the pass, parking, traction tires and chains, and carpooling

• Your questions: ask us anything

Want to keep going?

• Gearhouse is an outdoor club and café on Capitol Hill, a home base for people who want to get outside more, learn new skills and find their crew. In winter, our members ski and ride together, learn new snow sports side by side and share rides up to the mountains.

• Beginner programs for members: members can join a beginner progression this winter, learning alongside the same small group from the first day to the last. Membership is required for winter programs and events. Here's how to join.

• Pray for Snow, Thu, Dec 3: our winter kickoff party is open to everyone. Come meet the community, see what's coming this winter and celebrate the season. [Link ]

• Gear rentals: Gearhouse rents skis and snowboards to the public. Confirm, and link to rentals.
