- ➤ After being rescued from a dumpster in November, an Everett pit bull—now named Maisey—was adopted during a December shelter evacuation amid flooding and now thrives in a new home while sharing her adventures on Instagram with over 1,500 followers. Everett Herald
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The Economic Alliance Snohomish County moved its offices to downtown Everett in early December from a remote area to be closer to the business center and lower expenses (switching from $10,000 to $5,000 monthly rent). The new office is in the Snohomish County Health District Building at 3020 Rucker Ave, according to CEO Ray Stephanson. Everett Herald

- ➤ On Thursday, state Superintendent Chris Reykdal called for tax reforms to protect public schools and middle-class families during his annual State of Education address. He urged lawmakers to start discussions on reform as Gov. Ferguson’s budget proposal includes significant education spending cuts. KUOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Community Transit (to support future expansion) is exploring buying a thrift store property on Casino Road next to its offices, and its board amended the 2026-27 budget to allow up to $25.4 million and potential leaseback revenue in 2026 and 2027, with a decision pending at a November meeting. - ➤ Governor Bob Ferguson launched the Cascadia Sustainable Aviation Accelerator yesterday at the Boeing Future of Flight center in Everett. The project uses $20 million from the state and a donor to build a temporary research space on an 8-acre site south of Paine Field to advance green jet fuel. Everett Herald

- ➤ The Snohomish County Health Department confirmed three measles cases among a South Carolina family that visited Everett, Marysville and Mukilteo from Dec. 27 to Jan. 1; officials say anyone who visited these sites should check vaccinations if symptoms occur from Jan. 4 to Jan. 22 + consult a provider. - ➤ EvergreenHealth Monroe will open a new primary care and urgent care center in Snohomish by year's end at the former Bartell Drugs site — 1115 13th Street. The facility will offer lab draws, X-ray exams, and mammography while planning to add a mammography coach before opening. Everett Herald

- ➤ On Jan. 7, 2026, the Seahawks Community Engagement team hosted a flag football event at Everett Memorial Stadium where high-school teams from Jackson, Everett, and Cascade met former NFL player Garry Gilliam.
