COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Snohomish County held a December vigil to honor 63 individuals who died while homeless in 2025, including veterans from the US Army + Navy and Air Force. The Human Services Division provided the list of names.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • The Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee is hosting a multi-day MLK community celebration with Sunday's event at First Presbyterian Church (2936 Rockefeller Ave.) starting at 4 p.m. and Monday's march beginning at Everett Memorial Stadium and ending at the VOAWW Carl Gipson Center at 11 a.m., both free and open to all.  Snohomish County Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northwest Avalanche Center is offering a free avalanche awareness class at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Northwest Stream Center (600 128th St. SE) for 125 pre-registered participants. The session teaches how to access avalanche forecasts and read mountain weather signs.  Everett Herald

  • Elsa, a nearly one-year-old miniature donkey from a Monroe farm, received a prosthetic peg leg at Washington State University after a catastrophic injury and now runs happily as her owners build a new barn and plan to add Jasper (a four-year-old gelding) as her friend.  Snohomish County Tribune

  • Girls flag football gains momentum as local schools including Everett, Monroe, and Jackson continue their debut season with an opening game on Nov. 25 and a Seahawks Flag Football Takeover on Jan. 7 at Everett Memorial Stadium; playoffs begin Feb. 7 with coaches crediting community support + funding for gear.  Snohomish County Tribune
