COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ During Dec. 8-18, 2025, heavy rains caused severe flooding in North Sound — leaving thousands displaced and prompting the Red Cross to open several shelters that provided over 3,000 overnight stays. Local volunteers from Everett supported recovery until the final shelter closed last week. Everett Post
- ➤ The playground at Wiggums Hollow Park — damaged by an arson on Oct. 27, 2025 — will be replaced by a new $476,000 facility this summer after city council approved the project. Construction starts this winter, and police closed out the case with no leads. Snohomish County Tribune
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Housing Hope will close two job training businesses on Broadway in Everett—Kindred Cafe (Jan. 30) and Renew Home and Decor (Mar. 31)—due to financial difficulties. The nonprofit will continue its HopeWorks program with catering and additional training services. Everett Herald
- ➤ S3 Maritime, a Seattle-based marine services company, signed a three-year lease with the Port and will open a new 2,600 sqft facility at suite 107 in Waterfront Place in early March (offering full marine maintenance, repair and custom services) to support local boat owners. My Everett News

- ➤ Normanna Lodge restarted weekly ballroom dancing this month; the dances run every Thursday from 1-3 p.m. at 2725 Oakes Ave - admission costs $10 and partners are not required. Snohomish County Tribune

- ➤ Ballots are mailed today for Everett voters deciding on a $398.8 million bond to build a new elementary school and upgrade Lowell Elementary and a levy renewal to support staffing and daily operations; ballots must be returned by Feb. 10. Snohomish County Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Since its introduction in November 2024, Snohomish County’s SNO911 center has used an AI system named Ava (developed by Everett firm Aurelian) to handle routine calls and schedule services. A follow-up tool, Cora, now supports dispatchers by guiding them through procedures and saving crucial seconds in emergencies. Snohomish County Tribune
