COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Everett firefighters will climb Columbia Tower on March 8 (the 35th annual Fundraising Stairclimb) to raise money for Blood Cancer United. The local team leads the event and aims to support a goal of $3 million for cancer research and patient advocacy.  Everett Herald
  • The Everett Station District Alliance is now Stations Unidos and will expand services to support affordable housing and prevent displacement near future light rail stops including south Everett’s Casino Road neighborhood. The group will meet with stakeholders by summer to set its vision with community partners LISC supporting the effort.  Everett Herald
  • Over 50 community members gathered on Wednesday at the Lynnwood City Council chamber to voice concerns over a hygiene center that provides free showers for those experiencing homelessness — travel writer Rick Steves, the new owner, pledged $600,000 for upgrades including six shower units, new seating, and improved amenities.  Everett Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two Everett Public Schools educators were honored this weekend by the Washington Music Educators Association for their contributions to music education. Dr. Laura Wellington (Friend of Music Award) improved student arts at Heatherwood Middle School, and Melanie West (Outstanding Music Educator) built a new orchestra program at Jackson High School.  My Everett News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Verdant Health Commission announced that Alison Poulsen, with over 20 years of nonprofit experience, will serve as its new superintendent beginning April 13 + interim superintendent Sarah Zabel remains until then at the south Snohomish County facility.  Everett Herald
  • City staff said at a Jan. 31 council retreat that the downtown stadium project’s cost rose to $120M due to extra property and construction expenses. The project, planned to host AquaSox baseball and two United Soccer League teams in April 2027, still awaits final council approval.  Everett Herald

  • Kallie Cullison, a 21-year-old native, became the first female color commentator for the Silvertips broadcast on Feb. 6 at Angel of the Winds Arena. She overcame nerves with thorough preparation and family support during the historic game.  Everett Herald
