CRIME NEWS

  • A 54-year-old Everett man was arrested earlier this week for allegedly detonating a pipe bomb that damaged his neighbor’s car on Dec. 31 — police documents say his attack followed a series of racial harassment incidents.  Everett Herald

  • Women’s Work Productions presents Carried by the Current at Snohomish PUD Theatre in Everett starting today at 7:00 p.m. and running through March 29 at 2:00 p.m. The play, written and directed by Nicola Pearson, is based on the true story of Texas women who built businesses and created a safe house in the late 1800s.  Everett Post

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Washington's latest budget forecast shows an $845M drop in projected revenue over the next four years because future budget cycles are expected to bring lower revenue compared to a $54M increase in the current cycle. Lawmakers—including Everett's Senate Ways & Means Chair June Robinson—will use Tuesday's forecast to craft an operating budget that focuses on careful spending amid mixed fiscal estimates.  Everett Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • This morning, the Snohomish County Council unanimously approved an ordinance to expand childcare access by reducing regulatory barriers and streamlining permit requirements. Sponsored by Councilmembers Nate Nehring and Jared Mead, the move is expected to boost facilities across the county.  My Everett News
  • WorkSource Snohomish County closed its Everett Station office on March 17 as it moves its job-finding aid service to a new location in South Everett. The nonprofit will open its new office at 728 134th St. SW on April 7 — the move is meant to improve access for both job seekers and employers.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • Snohomish County Council hosted a panel with developers and environmental experts on Wednesday to discuss proposed changes to Critical Areas Regulations that would lower protections for wetlands, fish and wildlife and reduce buffer zones around key land areas—potentially easing housing development. Council members have not scheduled the next public hearing and will decide on the proposal in the future.  Everett Herald
