Good morning, Everett. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 29th of March.

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Everett Fire Department responded to two structure fires on March 26 after lightning struck a Valley View shed and a home on Kromer Ave — crews found no injuries and significant electrical damage in both cases — as the storm passed through.  Everett Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Everett residents will drop off paint (oil and latex-based), electronics, computer equipment, televisions and confidential documents for shredding at a mini-recycling collection event on April 5 at Lot B of Everett Station, starting at 9 a.m. and ending when capacity is reached or 3 p.m.  City of Everett

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Sound Transit Board voted Thursday to name Dow Constantine as its new CEO (effective April 1st) after his service as King County Executive since 2009 and as a board member since 2006. He will lead the agency as it implements the Sound Transit 3 plan for a $54 billion light rail expansion that will eventually serve Everett (with his first term ending at the close of 2026).  Everett Herald
  • On Wednesday, the North County Regional Fire Authority commission chose Dave Kraski as the new fire chief after changing the rules so a candidate can use an associate’s degree — if hired before the end of 2025 — instead of a bachelor’s degree, provided he earns his bachelor's within two years. He will take over on April 1 after former chief John Cermak retired after nearly 40 years of service.  Everett Herald
  • Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin spoke on March 28 and said public safety is her top focus by announcing a new police program and a youth violence prevention directive. The plan adds more school resource officers and pilots a drone response system—moves taken after a recent youth incident as crime has dropped and tougher policies on firearms and juvenile justice are urged.  Everett Herald
