- ➤ District officials held a groundbreaking for a new Jackson Elementary School in north Everett on April 1st to replace the aging 1948 building. The $54 million project will offer modern classrooms and safe spaces, and students will start learning in the 2026-27 school year before the old facility is demolished for a new gymnasium. - ➤ The EPA announced plans on March 12 to roll back 31 rules guiding vehicle emissions, raising concerns about Washington's clean air laws based on California standards. - ➤ Everett scanner host Daron Johnson ended his 15-year Snohomish County Scanner feed as law enforcement will soon switch to an encrypted police radio system—part of a 5-year, $71 million upgrade—to improve officer safety. - ➤ New walls are being poured for the first of two reservoirs that will replace a 100-year-old water storage facility facing seismic risks. The first reservoir will be 21 feet tall and hold 8 million gallons while the later phase will demolish a 20-million-gallon structure and build a 15-million-gallon facility—bringing total capacity to 23 million gallons funded by utility rates. - ➤ An infant in Snohomish County tested positive for measles on April 1, likely contracting the virus during travel abroad and becoming the state's third confirmed case since January 1. - ➤ Snohomish County health officials confirmed on Tuesday that an infant tested positive for measles after likely contracting it during international travel. Officials are warning that people who visited public areas at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Providence Monroe Clinic, and Seattle Children’s Hospital between March 27 and March 31 check their vaccination records—symptoms could appear as early as today.
