CRIME NEWS

  • Everett man Percy Levy, a former inmate turned community advocate, was arrested on March 13 after a traffic stop led police to find a loaded handgun and drugs in his home—he was later moved to federal detention and a second suspect was also transferred by U.S. Marshals.  Everett Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • DeLon Lewis, the program specialist for Black students at Everett Community College, is one of 12 finalists for the Herald Business Journal’s Emerging Leaders Award — the winner will be named on April 8 — and he teaches a STEM course while hosting the Nubian Jam summer festival to build bridges that help students succeed.  Everett Herald
  • WSU Extension Master Gardeners of Snohomish County will host the second session of The Perennial Path: A Walk & Talk Series on April 12th at noon at the Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens where Lee Borgatta will explain how to identify and care for bulbs and spring flowers. The free event requires no registration and gives local gardeners a chance to ask questions and learn useful growing tips.  My Everett News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New walls were poured yesterday for the first phase of the Reservoir 3 Replacement Project at 6107 Berkshire Drive, where an 8-million gallon reservoir that stands 21 feet tall will help supply safe water for nearly 457,000 people. Phase 1 is expected to finish by year's end, and phase 2 will replace the old 20-million gallon reservoir with a new 15-million gallon facility funded by utility bills + long-term bonds.  Everett Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Snohomish County Health Department in Everett is facing up to $3.4 million in federal grant cuts used for immunizations and disease prevention. The cuts affect two grants—one for COVID-19 vaccines for children and another for outbreak detection—and the county confirmed its third measles case this year.  Everett Herald
