- ➤ Bill France died at 83 on March 8 after fighting Parkinson’s and heart disease; he was one of the first victim advocates and helped create Dawson’s Place to support troubled children. A memorial service is set for 3 p.m. April 19 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Everett—his work left a lasting legacy in the community. Everett Herald
- ➤ Ellen Felsenthal at New Moon Farm Sanctuary in Arlington rescued nine abused goats from a cockfighting ring in Yelm in mid-February. She treats them daily with antibiotics and hoof care (hoping they will be ready for adoption by summer). Everett Herald

- ➤ Artist and science communicator Jill Pelto will launch her first art show next weekend with nine artists showing works about glaciers in the Skykomish and Snohomish river basins. The exhibit Shaped by Ice will open April 11 at Slip Gallery in Seattle and run until May 3 — it will offer interactive events — to engage viewers with art and science. Everett Herald
