- ➤ Bill France died at 83 on March 8 after fighting Parkinson’s and heart disease; he was one of the first victim advocates and helped create Dawson’s Place to support troubled children. A memorial service is set for 3 p.m. April 19 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Everett—his work left a lasting legacy in the community. Everett Herald
- ➤ Ellen Felsenthal at New Moon Farm Sanctuary in Arlington rescued nine abused goats from a cockfighting ring in Yelm in mid-February. She treats them daily with antibiotics and hoof care (hoping they will be ready for adoption by summer). Everett Herald

- ➤ Artist and science communicator Jill Pelto will launch her first art show next weekend with nine artists showing works about glaciers in the Skykomish and Snohomish river basins.
