COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Low-income seniors in Snohomish County can apply for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program by May 7 — the program provides an $80 benefit card for fresh produce at local markets. Cards will be mailed by June 15 and must be used by Oct. 31.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • Yuliana Flores-Montes was named the 2026 Emerging Leader Award winner at APEX Everett on Wed, Apr. 8—she was chosen among 12 finalists in recognition of her 20 years at Optum and her work as a notary helping community members with healthcare and legal documents.  Everett Herald
  • Mason Mosher, a 19-year-old from Marysville who balanced school + volunteer work and caregiving, was named the Navy’s Operation Homefront 2025 Military Child of the Year on April 8 near Naval Station Everett. He stood out among 300 nominees.  Everett Post

  • The city's arts calendar offers music, theater and art events at local venues - shows include a tribute to James Taylor at Everett Civic Auditorium on April 18, an open mic night at El Sid on Wednesdays, and the Water Ways exhibit at Schack Art Center through May 16.  Everett Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cascade High School will offer the district’s new International Baccalaureate program starting fall 2027, with pre-IB courses beginning fall 2026 & teachers in IB training. An event to register for the program is set for Wednesday, April 15 at Cascade High School from 6 to 7 p.m.  Snohomish County Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Department of Ecology declared a statewide drought emergency on April 8 due to below-normal snowpack and above-normal temperatures — a measure to speed up $3 million in grants and water permits for affected areas. Everett prepared for this scenario over the winter and expects few impacts while other regions face shortages.  KUOW
  • Kayak Point, a popular local destination, will reopen its access road and north day-use area on July 1, 2026, while construction limits access in the south. Crews are raising park infrastructure (picnic reservations open online on April 13 at 10:00 a.m.) to protect against storms and sea level rise.  My Everett News

  • Low-income seniors in Snohomish County may apply for an $80 benefit card to purchase produce from local farmers markets, stands, and stores.   • Compass Health has expanded its YGo Youth Mobile Crisis Program to offer 24/7 in-person health support for kids, teens, and families in Snohomish County. The program will respond at homes, schools, and community settings, providing crisis care that aims to stabilize situations and reduce stress while avoiding emergency room visits.  Snohomish County Tribune

  • Shorewood's Stormrays beat Archbishop Murphy 2 to 1 on Wednesday, April 8 (pitchers Joe Frye and Max Rojas played key roles) in a tight league duel that kept their record unbeaten at home.  Everett Herald
  • Glacier Peak dominated the 17th Everett Invitational at Legion Memorial Golf Course on April 2 with a team score of 305 while Kason Swanson earned the individual title with a 70; the tournament was held under cloudy, cool conditions as Glacier Peak placed three golfers in the top six.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • Glacier Peak rallied with big hits in the third inning to beat Meadowdale 13-1 at Meadowdale High School on Wednesday; junior Lucas Keller recorded three hits as the win improved the team's record to 9-3 while Meadowdale fell to 3-7.  Everett Herald
