CRIME NEWS

  • A 45-year-old Everett man, Kevin Torres Velasquez, was arrested on Thursday on federal drug charges after authorities with a SWAT team seized over 20 pounds of fentanyl — enough to kill millions — from his apartment earlier this year, and he appeared in U.S. District Court on Friday at 2 p.m.  Everett Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • On April 10, the Everett Cultural Arts Commission honored local artists with The Wendt & Mayor’s Arts Awards, awarding former council member Brenda Stonecipher for championing the arts and recognizing groups like Bunker Arts Collective, Huong Viet Performing Arts Group, educator Christopher Gove, and former publisher Leland Dart for their work. The event marked the 31st year of the awards that celebrate the creative impact on the city.  Everett Herald

  • KUOW’s Sound Politics podcast tells about the people and policies shaping our region—its April 10th episode featured former governor Gary Locke, who warned that a trade clash with China may hurt Washington exports.  KUOW
  • Everett City Council tabled its vote on a 2025 budget amendment until April 16 after a council member raised concerns about a $600,000 allocation for legal work on a multipurpose stadium project. The amendment reallocates unspent funds to support new staff positions, grant-funded projects and spending cuts while assigning $1.25 million for previously approved stadium work.  Everett Herald
  • Crews working on the Edgewater Bridge Replacement Project in Everett have nearly finished placing the piling that will support temporary platforms; later this month, they will begin dismantling the existing bridge — Mukilteo Boulevard stays closed and work zone safety is enforced.  My Everett News
