COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Downtown Everett Association will host a community event to plant flowers in nearly 300 downtown planters at Wetmore Theater Plaza on Saturday, April 26. Volunteers may check in at 9:30 a.m. or 11 a.m.—registration is required to join the event.  Everett Post

CRIME NEWS

  • Everett police arrested a 22-year-old man on Friday after the public identified him for attempting sexual assaults on two bikini baristas at coffee stands along Evergreen Way on April 6 and April 9+ he was booked on charges of first-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation and first-degree trespass.  Everett Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A lawsuit alleging Northshore School District staff repeatedly restrained and isolated an elementary student nearly four years ago reached a $500,000 settlement—deaf parents said they were denied adequate interpreter services and classroom observation, and the district has since worked to address these issues. The district did not admit fault as it transferred the student and improved communication with deaf families.  Everett Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • FEMA denied Washington’s request for aid to help fix damage from last year’s bomb cyclone — the letter said aid is not warranted — and Governor Bob Ferguson announced he will appeal the decision within 30 days. The state will supply more damage details to support its appeal as FEMA works to coordinate any additional help available.  Everett Herald
  • Washington state has passed Senate Bill 5375 that will require clergy to report child abuse or neglect even when disclosed in confession—64 lawmakers supported the measure, and it now goes to Gov Bob Ferguson for signing. State Sen. Noel Frame said the change is important to protect children.  KUOW
  • Everett police will start using two drones from Flock Safety in June to respond to emergency calls in north and south Everett—providing video feeds to guide officers before they arrive. The two-year trial will test faster response times and includes measures to protect privacy while seeking grant funding for future costs.  Everett Herald
