Good morning, Everett. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 16th of April.

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Snohomish County PUD will host its Energy Block Party at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 26 at its Electric Building headquarters in downtown Everett to mark the 55th annual Earth Day—this free event will include a Truckstravaganza for kids, an electric vehicle show, energy talks, free giveaways, and food trucks for families.  My Everett News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal disaster relief aid for damage from last November's storm was denied by FEMA—Governor Bob Ferguson said Washington met all criteria and will appeal within 30 days. The request covered damage to power systems, trees, and public infrastructure in multiple counties.  Everett Post
  • The Snohomish County Council updated ADU rules last month to let homeowners add accessory dwelling units on duplexes and townhomes — the change removes the need to match the main home's design. Homeowners can now build up to two ADUs on single family homes and duplexes while townhomes may have one unit — a move aimed at easing housing shortages in the area.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • The Everett City Council approved a one-year pilot program that will let police use drones to cut response times as early as June—one drone is free and a second will cost $50,000 if the trial works. The council also extended the Flock Safety Camera Program with $253,900 in grant funds to keep cameras running in key parks.  Everett Post

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Today, seniors at Washington Oakes in Everett gathered for a special lunch and Wheel of Fortune game. 101-year-old Mary Ann Karber and 76-year-old Dave Anderson headlined the event at the retirement community, which is housed in a renovated elementary school building.  Everett Herald
