COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City staff recommended rebuilding the deteriorated Clark Park gazebo as the new Turnbull Gazebo to be placed at Harborview Park after review found it unsalvageable. The plan, which honors the 1921 design (including select original elements), may start construction in summer 2027.  Snohomish County Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • Indie Bookstore Week runs from April 18 to 25 in Snohomish County, featuring 13 independent bookstores hosting local events in Snohomish and Monroe. Book lovers can visit shops like Upper Case Bookshop, The Enchanted Forest Bookshop, Eternal Endings, Main Street Books and We Be Book’N for special programs and discounts.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • The Schack Art Center in Everett named Raedle Alburn as its new executive director to succeed Judy Tuohy when she retires in May. Alburn (director of development and education and 2023 Art Educator of the Year) is set to lead the center with extensive arts experience.  Everett Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Everett will host a recycling collection event for residents Saturday, Apr. 18 at Lot B of Everett Station (south of 3201 Smith Avenue) from 9 a.m. until capacity is reached or 3 p.m., accepting hard-to-recycle household items.  My Everett News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Everett is updating its 30-year bike master plan to include cycling and pedestrian safety. Since 2011, the city has built 41 miles of on-street bike paths and 23 miles of trails, and staff expects additional projects to finish by the end of 2027 in key neighborhoods.  Everett Herald
  • A public meeting at Harvey Airfield on April 10 brought nearly 50 residents who questioned plans to shift the runway, change road and floodplain configurations, and update safety features to meet FAA rules. The meeting revealed local concerns about past misreporting and potential flood risks + safety of the proposal.  Snohomish County Tribune

  • On Wednesday, April 15, local prep softball games saw major blowouts as Kamiak shut out Cascade 16-0, Stanwood defeated Marysville Getchell 11-2, and Lake Stevens beat Everett 10-0 (other matchups were postponed or canceled).  Everett Herald
  • The Silvertips lost their 3-0 lead after the Rockets scored two late regulation goals and Tiji Iginla’s overtime winner — forcing a Game 5 scheduled for Friday in Everett.  Everett Herald
  • The Gipson Center hosts its long-standing table tennis program every Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3025 Lombard Ave (Everett) for local residents to enjoy active play.  Snohomish County Tribune
