COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Five local credit unions in Everett are collecting donations for Dawson Place, a nonprofit center that helps child abuse victims, until April 30. Donations dropped off at branches will be delivered May 6 along with contributions from the credit unions.  Snohomish County Tribune

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On April 16th, a fatal multi-vehicle collision involving a semitruck occurred on U.S. 2 near Fern Bluff Road—Washington State Patrol diverted traffic after one driver was trapped in the accident.  Everett Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Everett Public Schools Board of Directors announced five finalists for Director Position 3 after longtime board member Caroline Mason resigned in March following 11 years of service. The board will interview candidates at 11:30 a.m. on May 1 and choose a director who will be sworn in on May 13—serving through December.  My Everett News
  • The Everett Public Schools Board selected five finalists—Demetria Chatters, Jeffery Doan, Anna Marie Jackson Laurence, Curt Lillibridge, and Ryan Weber—to fill the vacant seat left when Caroline Mason resigned on March 11. The board will interview them at 11:30 a.m. May 1 and likely vote on a replacement who will be sworn in May 13 to serve until December.  Everett Herald
  • At a school board meeting Tuesday, the Edmonds board discussed potential staff cuts to help close an $8.5 million deficit (up to 12 certificated positions may be cut) and will vote on a reduced educational program on April 29 that could lower the number of cuts. The board also urged local residents to contact state representatives (focusing on bills for special education funding and operating costs).  Everett Herald

  • Tulalip Tribes and Adopt A Stream Foundation will plant trees along the west fork of Quilceda Creek at 9 a.m. Saturday at 2925 128th Street NE. The project will expand the riparian zone to filter runoff and provide shade for salmon + trout.  Everett Herald
