Good morning, Everett. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 23rd of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • McClain Insurance Services supports the Everett Animal Shelter through its 'Share the Good' program by donating $25 for each referral; the agency has built its local commitment since it was founded in 1977. It has partnered with the shelter since 2017—continuing to help care for homeless pets in the community.  City of Everett
  • Hope 'N Wellness, a drop-in center for the homeless near downtown Everett, has secured a new home after partnering with Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church — it opened its doors in the first week of April at Hensen Hall, 2619 Cedar St. and now welcomes clients every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • Everett Animal Shelter will host GiveBIG on May 6 and May 7 to raise $15,000 for homeless pets; early giving began April 22 to support pets like one-month-old Taco who underwent urgent surgery for a dangerous hernia.  City of Everett

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Snohomish County residents are facing long waits at Department of Licensing offices as they try to get REAL ID compliant driver’s licenses before the May 7 deadline; one Lynnwood office recorded over 100 people in line and wait times up to four hours. Only 28% of residents had compliant licenses as of April 1—making this effort urgent—while officials advise checking for other approved documents like a passport.  Everett Herald
  • Snohomish County PUD will hold two open houses on May 7 at 2320 California Street in Everett to present plans for a 3.5-mile transmission line designed to support growing power demand. The meetings will run from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. — they will include translation services and a chance for community feedback, with construction scheduled to begin in spring 2027 and last six months —.  Everett Post
