- ➤ Everett celebrates National Bike Month with events starting May 12 and a community gathering at Everett Station on May 16 from 3 to 6 p.m.—the events will include bike safety checks, interactive tours, and repair clinics to boost biking for work and play. City officials will also continue enhancing safe streets through plans like Vision Zero to support biking as a practical transportation option. City of Everett
- ➤ Food banks in Everett and Snohomish County face growing demand as state and federal support is cut—losing $8.5 million in state funds and $4.7 million in federal TEFAP orders that would have delivered food from April to June. - ➤ Everett High School’s NJROTC earned two top honors from the U.S. Navy’s Area 23 Command as it received the Bravo Zulu designation for its performance during the Annual Military Inspection and was named the Most Improved Unit for Area 23 — now in contention for national recognition. The unit also was selected as a Distinguished Unit, the highest NJROTC honor, and includes students from Cascade and H.M. Jackson High Schools. My Everett News

- ➤ Four salmon recovery projects in Snohomish County received over $1.9M in state funding from the Climate Commitment Act—supporting fish barrier removals and habitat restoration. The grants went to Adopt A Stream Foundation, the Stillaguamish Tribe, Tulalip Tribes, and the Department of Fish and Wildlife—each working to boost salmon populations. Everett Herald

- ➤ The City of Everett and Snohomish Conservation District are hosting Streamside Yard workshops in May to teach local property owners how to manage invasive species, bank erosion, and seasonal flooding near streams — sessions will be held on May 3 at the Everett Library, May 6 at Fire Station #4, and on May 15 via Zoom. The program also benefits from a grant to work with North and Swamp Creek property owners to increase streamside vegetation. City of Everett
- ➤ Mary Fosse—District 1 council member—will not run for reelection after serving since 2021 and she endorsed Sam Hem for her seat. Mason Rutledge and Sam Hem have launched their campaigns, with filings set from —May 5 to May 9—. Everett Herald
- ➤ Everett Councilwoman Liz Vogeli said she will not run for re-election and will finish her term, leaving an open seat in District 4. She noted her decision comes after months of thought and mentioned one candidate, Alan Rubio (who supports anti-crime and lower taxes), has already announced his run. Snohomish County Tribune
