Good morning, Everett. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 1st of May.
COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Faith Food Bank at 6708 Cady Road will give out food for the last time on May 9 because it could not agree with Faith Lutheran Church on a new lease that requires rent. The change will affect about 200 cars that pick up food each week and 50 people who attend Tuesday dinners — local mobile food banks now worry they may face increased demand. Everett Herald
- ➤ Connect Casino Road completed its first survey on April 30 that gathered input from 500 residents on health, financial stability, and social connections in the Casino Road neighborhood. The organization will share the results with 25+ partner agencies and city officials and will host a forum for more community input. Everett Post
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Edmonds school board approved a reduced program for the 2025 to 2026 school year—allowing the elimination of up to 12 certificated positions to help address an $8.5 million budget shortfall. Board members will finalize staffing decisions in July as the district awaits governor action on three bills that could add about $1.4 million in funds. Everett Herald
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Biologists with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife said about 7.5 million pink salmon will return to Puget Sound and local rivers this year, marking one of the top five runs since 1959—this record run may cause problems for freezer storage and hurt Chinook salmon stocks that orcas need for food.
