EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At a Thursday meeting, the school board selected Anna Marie Laurence to fill the vacant seat left when Caroline Mason resigned on March 11. Laurence, a former prosecutor who serves on a nonprofit board in Seattle, will serve until December and plans to run in the November election—her selection came after a five-hour meeting—. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Everett will hold an open house on May 8 from 6—8 p.m. at the Carl Gipson Center to ask for ideas on the new Comprehensive Plan that aims to grow the city by 65,000 residents — the draft plan calls for 36,500 new homes and the public can send comments until May 26. Everett Post
- ➤ Today at 11 p.m., WSDOT will close northbound SR 529 at the Steamboat Slough Bridge on Smith Island for mechanical work until 11 p.m. on May 6 and then again from May 9 to May 13, while southbound SR 529 stays open — city staff and WSDOT are coordinating messages and using portable signs to guide drivers and ease congestion on Monday and Tuesday. - ➤ Yesterday, the Snohomish County Council unanimously adopted legislation sponsored by Councilmember Nehring to limit RV parking on county roads to 72 hours—violators may face impoundment and the law will take effect 10 days after the County Executive’s signature. My Everett News
- ➤ Everett officials announced that starting May 6, Snohomish County police radio communications will be encrypted so public scanners will no longer pick up real-time updates—this $72 million upgrade will improve coverage and safety while fire and EMS channels remain accessible initially. - ➤ The City of Everett will begin roofing and structural improvements on one Reservoir 1 tank near 35th Street and Tulalip Avenue on May 5 — work will continue until June 27 — and a second tank will receive similar improvements in September. City of Everett
- ➤ In Everett, the City is installing a drainage detention pipe along Shore Avenue as part of the Edgewater Bridge Replacement Project and work will begin the week of May 12 and finish the week of May 19 with Granite Construction operating from 7 a.m.—5 p.m. Monday—Friday.
