CULTURE NEWS

  • The Evergreen State Fair announced its Grandstand concert lineup with Lee Brice performing Aug. 31, Sir Mix-A-Lot on Sept. 1, Amy Grant on Sept. 3, and a free America 250 concert on Sept. 4. Presale tickets are available from May 18 to May 21 and general admission starts on May 22.  Everett Herald
  • Everett nonprofits are hosting a free Cinco de Mayo celebration event Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at 9930 Evergreen Way, Building Y, featuring pinatas, dancers, folk music and lunch to honor Mexican culture.  Everett Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local students in the Schack Art Center program earned national recognition in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards after winning regional honors — winners from several local schools received silver and gold medals in categories like painting, drawing and ceramics.  My Everett News

HEALTH NEWS

  • EvergreenHealth Monroe will ask voters on Aug. 4 to consider a $382 million bond measure to fund a replacement hospital that will add 50 beds and expand emergency and surgical services (a temporary property tax averaging about $489 per median home per year will apply for up to 30 years).  Everett Herald

  • Prep tennis matches yesterday saw Jackson (at Jackson H.S.) defeat Kamiak while Glacier Peak (at Lake Stevens H.S.) and Cascade (at Mariner H.S.) secured wins in a high school sports roundup.  Everett Herald
  • Stanwood edged Everett 3-1 on Monday, May 4 when Jordan Rancourt and Taylor Almanza went 2-for-4 to drive key runs while Addi Anderson pitched a two-hitter for the win.  Everett Herald
  • The Herald announced Athlete of the Week nominees for April 26-May 2, and voting closed at midnight Sunday + the winner will be revealed in next Wednesday’s paper.  Everett Herald
