  • This Saturday, May 17, the Everett Parks department will host Kids to Parks Day with local groups including Boys & Girls Clubs, Everett YMCA, Sharing Wheels & Everett Rowing Association. The event will offer activities at several parks across the city.  City of Everett

CRIME NEWS

  • A jury in Everett convicted former bar owner Christian Sayre of two counts of indecent liberties after eight hours of deliberation on Monday, May 12—sentencing is set for July 21 and 22 and prosecutors may retry him on a second-degree rape charge.  Everett Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, DriftCon at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe drew hundreds of car fans to watch drivers like Dario Retych in his 1989 Nissan 240sx finish fourth out of over 50 competitors—showing the community’s passion for custom cars. The event also featured a car show and meetups—bringing local enthusiasts together.  KUOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Northshore School Board announced three finalists—Shaun Carey, Justin Irish, and Patrick Murphy—for its superintendent search after reviewing 32 applicants, with the finalists set to complete focus group discussions, school tours, and a town hall today. The board will make its final decision on Thursday at 6 p.m., and the new superintendent is scheduled to start on July 1.  Everett Herald

  • The candidate filing deadline on May 9 passed, and the list of candidates for Everett mayor and city council seats in the 2025 election is now set. Mayor Cassie Franklin is running again while former council member Scott Murphy, business leader Dr. Janice Greene and IT worker Rich Ryan join the mayoral race—other districts feature several contested seats.  My Everett News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Fresh & Ready Foods has voluntarily recalled several ready-to-eat products sold in Washington after at least 10 people were sickened by a listeria outbreak—six of whom were hospitalized. Federal officials are investigating the outbreak while products with use by dates from April 22 to May 19 are removed from stores and food service locations.  KUOW
