CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Everett Historic Theatre has been sold to Bellevue real estate agent Johnny Phan, and its events for July and August are canceled as it closes for renovations. Manager Curt Shriner said he may try to rent the theater for fall shows—leaving its future programming uncertain. Everett Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Helion CEO David Kirtley said a new law signed by Gov. Bob Ferguson will help his Everett company build the world’s first fusion power plant—by letting Helion show its plans to a state review panel without local opposition. The company will start a one-year study in April in Malaga and is also checking other sites while planning to supply Microsoft with 50 megawatts by 2028. Everett Herald
- ➤ Snohomish County will resurface about 76 miles of its roads this summer—seven miles will be paved in projects including 140th St NW/NE in Marysville starting late June and 69 miles will be chip sealed beginning in July and completing by the end of September—drivers should plan alternate routes during lane closures. - ➤ On May 14, 2025, the Snohomish County Council passed a critical habitat ordinance with Amendment 3 by a 3—2 vote in Everett after nearly two hours of public testimony opposed to the changes. Local critics argued the update does not protect wetlands and wildlife enough while council members stated it strengthens stream buffer protections. Everett Herald
