COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Port of Everett now accepts ferry reservations for Jetty Island Days, a summer program running from July 5 through Aug. 31 that brings visitors to Puget Sound's longest sandy beach—managed by the Port, City, and Snohomish County. The foot ferry departs from Jetty Landing Park and includes a reduced parking rate with a confirmed reservation.  My Everett News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Friday, May 16th, a Community Transit bus caught fire on the 3700 block of Bickford Avenue in Snohomish with the driver and three passengers evacuating safely and firefighters using 600 gallons of water to put out the flames — a replacement bus soon arrived on Route 271 between Everett and Gold Bar.  Everett Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Everett is hosting the Fisherman’s Village Music Festival, which began on May 15th and will continue until early Sunday morning. Bands including Bear Axe, Clothing Optional, and the Anthony Brock Group are performing at Apex Everett — a downtown venue at 1611 Everett Ave.  Everett Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Everett Public Schools announced on May 9 that girls flag football will be added as a varsity sport next winter. The program will launch at a cost of about $76,000 — teams from all three high schools will play their home games at Everett Memorial Stadium.  Everett Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal prosecutors told families on Friday that they were considering dropping criminal charges against Boeing for the fatal 737 Max crashes — the announcement, made during a video meeting with DOJ lawyers, surprised relatives who had not been briefed earlier.  Everett Herald
  • Sound Transit is seeking feedback on plans to improve walking and biking routes to new Link light rail stops in Everett — the proposals include widened sidewalks, bike lanes and enhanced crossings. A public meeting is scheduled at Cascade High School on June 5 at 5:30 p.m. — comments are accepted until June 29.  Everett Herald
