- ➤ A federal grant worth $250,000 has been reinstated to Imagine Children’s Museum after a court order, which supports its Little Science Lab program that offers free science lessons to preschoolers in rural Snohomish County through 2027—while the museum said it will deliver the program through at least June 2025 as an appeal is pending. - ➤ Governor Bob Ferguson signed Senate Bill 5041 earlier this week, which lets striking workers get unemployment benefits—benefits that start 15 to 21 days after a strike begins and last up to six weeks if no deal is reached. Some labor leaders say the law will help protect workers while critics say it might make strikes last longer and hurt small businesses. Everett Post
- ➤ On Wednesday, Everett City Council approved an ordinance that requires city public works contracts to use at least 15% apprentice labor and accelerates state law thresholds so that projects over $1 million must meet the rule by July 2027—mandating annual reports on apprentice use by trade and demographic details. - ➤ Local candidates Mason Rutledge, Sam Hem, Bill Wheeler, Erica Weir, and Steven Sullivan are running for the District 1 seat on the Everett City Council after Councilmember Mary Fosse—who served since 2021—stepped down to serve as a state representative.
