Good morning, Everett. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 30th of May.
COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Everett Station District Alliance will host its third annual street fair on June 18th from 5-8 pm—next to Everett Station, just south of Pacific Avenue between Smith and McDougall—featuring food trucks, music, over 25 vendors and more than 30 community agencies sharing local projects. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Boeing, the state’s second biggest private employer, saw its stock go up 20% and Qatar Airlines ordered 210 jets while experts discussed its past troubles—like fatal crashes and a machinist strike—and the chance it might not face criminal charges for those crashes. The panel featured a Seattle Times reporter and an aerospace expert who examined how the company is changing its safety practices. KUOW
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The family of James Blancocotto—who was fatally shot by police in Lake Stevens in 2023 while facing mental health and drug issues—filed a federal civil rights lawsuit in Seattle alleging that state delays in court-ordered mental health treatment led to his mishandled care and death. The lawsuit claims officials failed to meet a 14-day evaluation requirement and the case remains in its early stages. Everett Herald
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, the state Department of Natural Resources removed a derelict barge from Spencer Island Estuary using a crane at high tide — the removal, completed with the Department of Fish and Wildlife, supports a project to restore salmon habitat. Everett Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting in June, crews will resurface segments on 34th Avenue NE, Ross Avenue, Evergreen Way, East Casino Road, Broadway, and Mukilteo Boulevard while causing lane closures and traffic delays in Everett. Drivers should expect detoured routes and schedule changes due to weather—work may begin as early as 6 a.m. on weekdays and continue at night on Broadway. Everett Post
- ➤ City staff said it will cost $82 million to build a new downtown stadium for baseball and soccer — a cost lower than earlier estimates — as most funds will come from bonds, private investment, and contributions from Snohomish County and the state. The city council will vote on three ordinances on June 11 and the project will move forward if lease agreements are completed, with construction beginning in 2026 and the first game set for April 2027. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Full Life Care in Everett will close on July 19 due to state funding cuts after running at a $3 million deficit, leaving 120 disabled adults without their only local day center. Clients will have to travel 32 miles to South Seattle for care and 18 staff members will lose their jobs + the closure risks cutting off a key support system for many. Everett Herald
