- ➤ Electric Bike cyclist Paul Zuanich, a member of the ILWU, is starting a 30-day, 1,750-mile ride to raise funds for childhood cancer research and will visit Everett on June 6 at ILWU Local 32 Everett’s hall, 1016 Hewitt Ave.—He will then continue his ride through union ports on the West Coast and join the Bloody Thursday Memorial Picnic in San Pedro on July 5. - ➤ On Monday evening the Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting in the 13100 block of 21st Drive SE where two children were shot while spray-painting graffiti — a 20-year-old suspect fled on a motorized scooter before being taken into custody and the 11-year-old remains in critical condition while the 17-year-old was released from the hospital. - ➤ Everett’s garden arts festival—Sorticulture—will start Friday and will cover eight downtown blocks from Everett Avenue to Pacific Avenue. The free event will run Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring art classes, garden vendors, live music and gardening expert Ciscoe Morris who will appear at 1 p.m. at the Historic Everett Theatre. - ➤ Kirk Troberg, a community resilience coordinator at the state Department of Natural Resources, advised property owners to clean roofs and gutters and clear a 5-foot buffer around their homes ahead of a hot and dry summer wildfire season — key steps to reduce embers that can ignite fires. He added that neighborhoods can join the Firewise USA program to get free wildfire risk assessments — a measure that helps target ladder fuels and other hazards. Everett Herald

- ➤ Snohomish County PUD is accepting applications for its TREE Power program until Monday, June 10th to fund tree-planting projects—grant amounts range from $7,500 to $15,000—and lower energy use while reducing building heat. The program builds on last year's pilot that awarded grants to Arlington, Everett and Mukilteo. My Everett News

- ➤ Providence Regional Medical Center Everett told its 200 certified nursing assistants they must decide by Thursday whether to take a voluntary severance package—union members say they did not get enough details, and management cites financial challenges and the need to balance nurse staffing. The union has asked for bargaining while care staff worry this move may affect patient safety. Everett Herald
- ➤ Providence Regional Medical Center Everett added a trained K-9 named Rubi and her handler to the Colby Campus Emergency Department to help reduce workplace violence. Rubi began working with Security Officer Anthony Zepeda on May 19 — they will introduce the pair to the community at the AquaSox game on Tuesday, June 10. Everett Post
