EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Four Everett police officers volunteered to chaperone Olivia Park Elementary's fifth graders so they can still take a three-day summer camp trip to Camp Killoqua next week after the outing nearly was canceled due to a shortage of male chaperones. School officials said the camp is funded by state outdoor education grants that are nearly cut from the 2025-27 budget & may leave students without future overnight experiences if an alternative funding source is not found. Everett Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Port of Everett opened its $8.1-million Marina Fuel Dock in late May to serve local boaters, emergency services, law enforcement and defense partners. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for June 12 at 4 p.m. on the esplanade next to Central Docks — the project includes upgrades like improved fuel stations and a commercial pumpout station — as part of a long-term marina renewal. Everett Post
- ➤ Washington's long-term care program will launch next summer on July 1—offering benefits capped at $36,500 and funded by a payroll tax; lawmakers revised the program to let near-retirees receive partial benefits and allow private insurers to offer supplemental plans. State officials say these changes will help workers manage aging costs and address concerns raised over the program. Everett Herald
- ➤ Everett workers making minimum wage will see a raise starting July 1 after voters approved a ballot measure in November — large companies will pay $20.24 per hour while firms with 15 to 500 employees will pay $18.24 and tips will not count toward the wage. Everett Herald
