COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Snohomish County recorded 1,140 homeless people on Jan 22—a 1.8% drop from last year's 1,161. The sheltered count rose 11% as cold weather shelters opened and the unsheltered tally fell 14% from 2024.  Everett Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Everett Public Schools superintendent Ian B. Saltzman was honored with the 2025 Robert J. Handy Most Effective Administrator Award on Monday, June 23 for his efforts to enhance student programs and support multilingual learners (the district's graduation rate reached 95.2%, the highest in Snohomish County).  Everett Post

  • On Jan. 22, Snohomish County counted 1,140 people experiencing homelessness—a 1.8% drop from last year and 11% lower than in 2023. County officials said cold weather increased shelter use and that a pending lawsuit over funding conditions puts future federal aid at risk.  Everett Herald
  • The Everett City Council renewed its policy that lets a court ban people accused or convicted of drug crimes from certain SODA areas. The council added a zone near Everett Community College and removed the area at Wiggums Hollow Park— changes based on recent police data.  Everett Herald
