CULTURE NEWS

  • GeekFest West will take place from July 18th to 20th at Angel of the Winds Arena in Downtown Everett — a three-day celebration featuring events like the Amazing Awesome Race and Cosmic Cosplay Contest following last summer's event that drew over 8,000 geeks. Organizers plan to establish this as a 10-year tradition in the city.  My Everett News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Everett Transit is asking residents to help shape its Long-Range Plan for public transportation through a survey open until July 31 and several community events scheduled this July. The plan will guide bus service changes, new technology, and other improvements through 2045—inviting everyone who rides transit or wants better service to share their ideas.  City of Everett
  • On June 25, the Everett Fire Department celebrated the 100th anniversary of Fire Station No. 2—now its headquarters—at 2801 Oakes Ave with an open house, tour and lunch as about 50 residents viewed historic firefighting artifacts and learned about the station’s century-long legacy.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • Snohomish County has imposed a Stage 1 outdoor burning ban from July 1 through August 31 that stops all residential burning in unincorporated areas and several local cities—including Everett—while allowing recreational and cooking fires under strict guidelines. The ban may be extended if high fire danger continues.  Everett Post
