- ➤ An 11-year-old boy was saved from near drowning Tuesday, July 8 at Thornton A. Sullivan Park when a 13-year-old diver rescued him from Silver Lake—fire crews and community bystanders provided CPR and restored his pulse before he was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center. My Everett News
- ➤ A 33‑year‑old man died in a single‑vehicle crash near Stanwood on Monday evening — his car was found partially wrapped around a tree in the 21000 block of Marine Drive, officials said. Everett Herald

- ➤ Arizona members of Congress urged the federal government to release $118 million in education funds that had been withheld on July 1 — Washington schools risk losing $137 million if the funds remain frozen, which could worsen local budget challenges. Everett Post
- ➤ Following the 2024 Supreme Court ruling in Rudisill v. McDonough, military veterans who served two separate active duty periods are now eligible for up to 48 months of combined GI Bill benefits—an increase from the previous 36-month cap that may also refund the $1,200 paid. Veterans who last received an education claim decision before August 15 should file VA Form 22-1995 by October 1, while Everett Community College officials note that awareness of the new benefits remains low.
