- ➤ The Snohomish County Dahlia Society has shared 10 expert tips for growing award-winning dahlias by advising gardeners to protect blooms with umbrellas and to disbud, test soil, and use drip irrigation—experts say these steps help achieve top scoring flowers. Their 116th show will be held on Aug. 16 from 1-6 p.m. and Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Floral Hall in Forest Park with free admission. Everett Herald

- ➤ Snohomish County’s portion of a new $16 million opioid settlement is set to fund naloxone training, improved drug data, and community-based recovery programs—money that will come in segments over several years. - ➤ South County Fire held a push-in ceremony on Monday at the Lynnwood Civic Center Fire Station where attendees helped push a new engine into the station—a nod to firefighter traditions from the era of horse-drawn equipment.
