COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Everett Animal Shelter saved Merrill, a mastiff once marked for euthanasia, through a new behavior training program that teaches staff and volunteers to handle aggressive dogs. Shelter director Glynis Frederiksen said the program is funded by a $53,000 grant + efforts to seek city funding to keep it running + the grant expires in December. Snohomish County Tribune
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 4 year old child in Lynnwood accidentally shot his mother Tuesday morning when he took his father's loaded gun—deputies said she suffered injuries that were not life threatening and the father was arrested for reckless endangerment and unsafe firearm storage. Everett Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ HopeWorks has opened a new culinary kitchen at its Broadway station to provide job training and catering services, funded by a million-dollar grant from the Gates Foundation and additional local partners. The kitchen was completed in March, began operations in April, and will be celebrated next week during a summer dinner (where the HopeWorks and Housing Hope boards will combine). Everett Post
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, Washington state banned the sale and transport of English ivy and Atlantic ivy by adding them to a list of 19 noxious weeds — retailers must stop selling these invasive plants by Aug 9 — because they harm local forests. KUOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The League of Women Voters of Snohomish County and the 2025 Forum Partnership Coalition have produced candidate forums for local races including the Everett mayor and council contests ahead of the primary election. Recordings are available on KSER 90.87 FM and online—upcoming sessions in Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Granite Falls and Edmonds will air on their scheduled dates. Snohomish County Tribune
- ➤ Snohomish County Elections will mail primary ballots to about 470,000 registered voters this week for the August 5 Primary. Voters must register or update their registration by July 28 and can return ballots by mail or drop them off at one of 35 ballot drop boxes open until 8 p.m. on Election Day. Everett Post

- ➤ On July 9, Snohomish United clinched a spot in the USL2 playoffs after beating Tacoma Stars 5-1 (at the Snohomish Stocker Soccer Fields). Aaron Leon scored three goals (with Declan Mcglynn and Eric Lagos adding one each) to secure the win. Snohomish County Tribune
