Good morning, Everett. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 17th of July.
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dry weather is raising wildfire risks across North Sound today as no rain is expected until the end of the month — Paine Field has received only 5.27 inches so far and areas like Monroe and Darrington remain below average. Fire officials enforce fire bans — and cooler onshore breezes are forecast for the weekend to help lower high temperatures. Everett Post
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Snohomish County election officials are mailing ballots today for the Aug. 5 primary to about 470,000 registered voters, including contests for local offices like the Everett mayor race where three candidates are seeking to unseat incumbent Cassie Franklin—about 60,000 voters with no local contests will not receive a ballot. The revamped, voter-friendly packet has fewer inserts and clear instructions—voters can update their registration until July 28 and return ballots by drop boxes or mail before the deadline. - ➤ Liz Vogeli did not run for reelection, opening the field for three candidates—Niko Battle, Luis Burbano, and Alan Rubio—to vie for a seat in South Everett. Niko Battle proved ineligible because he registered to vote too late and his address details did not meet the charter requirements. My Everett News
