GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lake Stevens City Council voted unanimously on July 15 to appeal a court ruling that the city cannot assume its sewer district eight years early as required by a 2005 agreement—officials say the appeal is expected to take six to nine months and cost about $50,000 while legal fees in the dispute have exceeded $1 million. The decision was made to secure long-term planning and control over the sewer system.  Everett Herald
  • Demolition of the old Edgewater Bridge is complete and crews are constructing a temporary bridge to support work on the new seismically-resilient Edgewater Creek Bridge + remaining columns from the old bridge are being used to form a safe platform for construction. Paving on West Mukilteo Boulevard will begin late July with single lane closures and alternating one-way traffic as lower volumes help speed up the project.  City of Everett
  • Everett Fire Chief Dave DeMarco said that on July 18 a person drove away Engine 1 after it idled for an emergency call—causing property damage but no injuries.
