- ➤ Two Everett police officers rescued a trapped driver from a burning electric vehicle on I-5 near U.S. 2 early Saturday — both officers were treated for smoke inhalation and remain in good condition as Mayor Cassie Franklin praised their quick actions. Everett Herald
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Snohomish County Public Works received a Vision 2050 award on Monday for its Little Bear Creek restoration near Woodinville (a 17-acre site that offsets future wetlands impacts from transportation projects). The county spent around $4 million to plant 22,000 native plants and expects the project to save up to $30 million in future mitigation costs for road improvements. Everett Herald

- ➤ The T intersection of S. Machias Road and Dubuque Road will be rebuilt into a roundabout starting in 2027 to ease traffic and reduce crashes — the design includes a bypass lane for southbound drivers not turning and space for trucks — with the work fully funded by a $4.3 million federal road safety grant. - ➤ More than 100 local governments in Washington are eligible to claim their share of $122.2 million from opioid settlements with Purdue Pharma and eight generic manufacturers, the attorney general’s office said Monday—local entities must sign up, with the Purdue settlement requiring action by Sept. 30, to receive funds spread over 15 years for programs addressing the opioid epidemic.
