ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A boat fire was reported at 9:36 a.m. today at the Port of Everett Fuel Dock at the Central Marina (400 block of 14th Street) when police on Marine 1 managed a 32-foot boat carrying 300 gallons of fuel until firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 30 minutes, with all four people and a dog evacuating safely and two treated for smoke inhalation while the fuel dock remains closed for further assessment.  City of Everett

CRIME NEWS

  • Kirkland Police arrested a 40-year-old Everett man on July 23 for 22 burglaries in four counties between April and July—he was booked for 20 felony charges and released on a $150,000 bond.  Everett Herald
  • Jewel Lazaro fled Spain amid accusations of abuse and brought her 3 1/2-year-old daughter Lucia to Sultan, Washington, but a Snohomish County judge later ruled the child be returned to her father in Spain under the Hague Convention, highlighting the challenges mothers face in custody disputes.  Snohomish County Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • Everett Street Tunes is back for its 2025 edition with artistically decorated pianos set up across town — including a new spot in South Everett — for public play. The installation celebrates its third consecutive year and features three fewer pianos than last year.  My Everett News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sound Transit asks Everett residents to share views on the Link Light Rail extension study & use the feedback for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement. The online survey stays open until Aug 28 & will guide next steps in the project.  Everett Post
  • Community Transit shared plans at a board meeting for its new Swift Gold Line—an upcoming bus rapid transit connecting downtown Everett to Arlington with stops in Marysville. The agency will ask for more public input in September and decide on a final route and bus lane option in 2026 as it aims to open the 15-mile line in 2031.  Everett Herald
  • Everett published its first annual Photo Enforcement report, which shows incomplete 2024 data because cameras were activated gradually (the report also lists traffic accidents and notices of infraction required by state law).  City of Everett
  • Everett City Council District 4 candidates are set for the Aug. 5 primary as questions arise over community organizer Niko Battle's eligibility, since he registered in Snohomish County only five days before filing despite city rules requiring a year of residence. Contractor Alan Rubio and Boeing engineer Luis Burbano also are in the race and are offering different plans on public safety, affordable housing, and homelessness in District 4.  Everett Post
