Good morning, Everett. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 3rd of August.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community members filed a land use appeal in Skagit Superior Court on Monday against Snohomish County’s approval of Pacific Ridge Homes’ 144.88-acre Eastview Village project — they claim the project was wrongly exempted from full environmental and transportation reviews and could pose safety hazards for local residents. Petitioners, including nonprofits and homeowners, seek a judge to reexamine the decision and ensure state and local laws are properly followed.  Everett Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Edmonds College students excavated Mukilteo’s Japanese Gulch to uncover artifacts from the early 1900s when Japanese workers helped run the Crown Lumber Company—excavation ended Friday, and in the fall the artifacts will be sent to the Burke Museum for study.  Everett Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Clean and Prosperous Institute updated its online map last week—showing 2,700 projects and $4.74 billion in Climate Commitment Act funding—that helps Washingtonians find projects by focus area. The map lists icons for projects that support natural lands, public transit or tribal-led work.  Everett Herald
  • Washington State University’s extension program will host a nine-week Sustainable Community Stewards course this fall from Sept. 10 to Nov. 5 at Willis D. Tucker Community Park, where residents will learn about waste reduction and recycling to fight climate change. The course costs $60 with fee waivers available and a 10% discount for registrations before August 15—training sessions run Wednesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m.  Everett Herald
