ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Coast Guard’s final report stated that inadequate design and safety measures led the Titan submersible to collapse during its June 2023 dive to the Titanic — killing all five aboard, including the operator and four passengers.  Everett Herald

  • Economic Alliance Snohomish County (EASC) and Greater Everett Chamber of Commerce (GEC) will host the 2025 Summer Networking Event at Funko Field on August 27th to help business leaders connect while enjoying food and entertainment. The event starts with a private pre-game BBQ from 5:00–7:00 p.m. and includes game access and a raffle entry with tickets costing $55.  My Everett News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 24-year-old suspected getaway driver in Renton on July 30 after GPS data and phone records linked her to the 2022 Eastmont home invasion and murder of Irah Sok—prosecutors say she faces first-degree murder, robbery, and kidnapping charges with two other suspects.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • David Neff pleaded not guilty to 14 charges including unsafe storage and domestic violence after his 4-year-old child accidentally shot his 42-year-old mother when retrieving an unsecured firearm from their Lynnwood home on July 15—his bail doubled from $500,000 to $1 million after a search uncovered 73 firearms and suspected explosives.  Everett Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tuesday night results in the Northshore school board primary showed that in District 1, Carson Sanderson received 54% and Arun Sharma 29%, while District 4 incumbent Sandy Hayes led with 57% and in District 5, Kimberlee Kelly led with 63%. Six candidates will move on to the Nov. 4 general election and the primary results will be certified on Aug. 19 — campaign contributions ranged from $200 to $21,428.  Everett Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In the Snohomish County primary, voters in the Snohomish Fire District approved an EMS levy measure with 60% support—while in Everett the mayoral race shows former councilman Scott Murphy leading incumbent Mayor Cassie Franklin with 3,993 to 3,815 votes as more ballots are counted. Other local contests, including city council races and a board seat for Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue, remain in close competition.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • Tuesday’s primary showed that Everett’s City Council races in Districts 1 and 4 were too close to call, with margins between candidates fewer than 150 votes — a lead seen by Sam Hem and Niko Battle. In District 2, incumbent Paula Rhyne and challenger Ryan Crowther advanced to the November ballot with clear leads — 56% for Rhyne and 40% for Crowther.  Everett Herald
  • The city will repave Broadway from California Street to 18th Street starting in August and will fully close the road at 7 p.m. during night work — motorists will face detours, noise, and limited bus service.  City of Everett
