- ➤ Mariner Fest will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mariner High School as Project Girl Mentoring Group, Everett Housing Authority, and Sno-Isle Libraries give away free backpacks and school supplies to the first 1,200 registered K-12 students — and the fair will also offer free food, games, music, plus a book talk by Dr. Margaret Towolawi — sparking a fun start to the school year. - ➤ Boeing said it will begin production of its 737 MAX 10 jetliner at its Everett plant once the FAA certifies the plane in 2026, as noted by CEO Kelly Ortberg during a July 29 earnings call. The new production line follows delays from engine deicing issues and is designed to help improve flow between Boeing’s Everett and Renton factories — the change comes after earlier plans were pushed back. - ➤ The Snohomish Bartell Drugs at 13th and Avenue D will close Aug. 20 as prescriptions moved to a CVS at Second Street and Pine Avenue after Rite Aid went bankrupt in May. CVS acquired 64 Rite Aid stores—affected locations will be rebranded without the Rite Aid or Bartell Drugs names. Snohomish County Tribune
- ➤ Everett-based Funko reported a $41M loss in the second quarter during an earnings call last Thursday after markets closed, as net sales dropped from $247.7M to $193.5M and a $5.4M profit turned into a loss amid a dynamic tariff environment — its first half loss reached $69M. The company’s stock closed at $3.66 a share on NASDAQ — further updates are expected. Everett Herald

- ➤ Organizations in Everett and Mukilteo are hosting back-to-school events that offer free backpacks, supplies, food, and vaccination clinics to support students and families facing economic hardships. The events include the Everett Public Schools Foundation’s Stuff the Bus fundraiser — targeting more than 3,200 backpacks from Aug. 15 to 17, the Mukilteo School District’s drive from Aug. 11 to 15, and several resource fairs and clinics through Aug. 29. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Contractors will close a mile-long stretch of Broadway in north Everett from California Street to 18th Street at night starting August 18 as they repave the road from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday—city officials say work will be completed by fall and may disrupt nearby bus stops. Everett Herald
- ➤ Everett held its mayoral primary on Aug. 7 where current Mayor Cassie Franklin received 34.87% of the votes and Scott Murphy received 35.27%, with both candidates set to face off in the general election on Nov. 4 — the results will be certified by Aug. 19. Everett Post
- ➤ Everett city staff proposed a new ordinance that would charge graffiti taggers a $250 fine and require restitution for cleanup, with community service as an option if they cannot pay. The city council will vote on the measure on Aug. 20 as police Captain Tim Morgan noted that the new rule lets officers issue fines with a lower burden of proof — a change from the current misdemeanor system.
