CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Everett police responded to multiple gunshot reports on Corbin Drive on Sunday at 3:30 a.m. and transported a man in his 30s to the hospital—no suspects are in custody as investigators examine the case. Everett Herald
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Everett is hosting its annual Street Tunes event where 10 commissioned pianos decorated by local artists are on display through Aug. 28. Community members are encouraged to visit during daylight hours and play the pianos—each one designed to spark deep connection with art. Everett Post
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Politicians, naval officials, and DARPA leaders met Monday at Everett Ship Repair to christen the USX-1 Defiant, an 80-foot unmanned ship built on Whidbey Island that tested in Puget Sound since March. The ship will soon join tests in open oceans under DARPA’s No Manning Required program — a step toward future unmanned vessels. Everett Herald
- ➤ Everett Parks and Facilities said the Garfield Park Playground at 2300 Walnut St. will be renovated in 2026 with updated surfacing and new features—other park areas will remain unchanged. The city asks for community input by August 15 to help design a safer, more inclusive play area. City of Everett
- ➤ Community Transit’s Board of Directors approved an update to its plan covering six years on Thursday that sets a course to boost bus service and start running electric buses in 2027. The plan projects a 39% rise in service and an 82% increase in ridership by 2030 and includes two Swift bus rapid transit projects linking key local areas—steps meant to improve transit options for Snohomish County riders. - ➤ Everett will see Broadway closed nightly for pavement work starting Monday, August 18 at 7 p.m. until mid-September—this mile-long project is the final phase of ongoing street repairs funded by federal grants and local funds that will include detour routes and transit service changes.
