- ➤ The Fresh Paint Festival—set in downtown Everett along Hoyt Avenue—will open this weekend with over 120 artists creating art live and offering food and entertainment; the event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Everett Herald
- ➤ A friend of Maltby Food Bank will host a comedy show fundraiser at Echo Falls Golf Club on August 29 to help families facing food insecurity—doors will open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Forecast Energy will begin installing a rooftop solar system this week—lowering the food bank's electric costs for more food funding. - ➤ The Reptile Zoo in Monroe will close on October 18th after nearly 30 years in operation because the owners struggled to recover after COVID. The owners are offering the business assets for $385,000 with purchase offers due by September 15th and Reptile Man and Reptile Lady will keep holding reptile shows in the community. My Everett News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Stillaguamish Tribe partners with The Nature Conservancy and other groups to restore tidal wetlands at the Stillaguamish River delta to help Chinook salmon by reconnecting 230 acres of former farmland with natural channels. When restoration finishes in early summer, 10 miles of new channels will link 1,000 acres—reviving fish habitat and honoring tribal heritage. Everett Herald

- ➤ Sound Transit started construction Tuesday in Bothell on a new 360,000 square foot bus facility — a hub for its upcoming bus rapid transit network. The $274 million project will add maintenance, parking and battery charging to support new all-electric buses and is expected to create jobs when Stride service begins by 2028. Everett Herald
- ➤ Snohomish County Council members met on Tuesday and learned that low sales tax revenue and overspending by four departments may lead to a $20 million deficit over two years—council members plan to meet with department heads soon to address the shortfall. Everett Herald
