- ➤ Jonathan Hoang remains missing over four months after he was reported from Arlington—family say recent Kirkland footage shows him, though detectives have not confirmed his identity. Everett Herald
- ➤ A DoorDash driver crashed his 2007 Toyota Yaris into a tree near Lynnwood at 6 p.m. and then set his car on fire after reportedly being high on meth—Lynnwood police say a K—9 tracked him to a hiding spot under a parked car and he was later booked into Snohomish County Jail on charges of arson, DUI drugs and hit and run. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Aug. 7, the Washington Department of Ecology extended emergency drought funding—providing $4.5 million in grants—until Dec. 5 for municipalities, tribes, conservation districts, and businesses in eastern Snohomish, Whatcom, and Skagit counties as officials respond to ongoing dry conditions. Local areas like Everett remain under a drought advisory, so residents should stay alert to water usage guidelines. Everett Herald

- ➤ Everett City Council approved $360,000 for a new 2,000-square-foot skate dot in south Everett’s Lions Park that will include a small half pipe, small quarter pipe, grinding curb and skate sidewalk—Snohomish County contributed $80,000 as design will be completed by fall for a summer 2026 opening. The council also extended the county grant deadline to 2026 and will vote on park lighting at a meeting on Aug. 27. Everett Herald
- ➤ Everett City Council will vote next week on an ordinance that creates a civil infraction for illegal graffiti — the rule imposes a $250 fine and permits restitution to cover cleanup costs for public and private property — to help deter unauthorized tagging.
