BUSINESS NEWS

  • Everett-based Funko announced that former Netflix and Nike executive Josh Simon will become its new CEO on September 1 — replacing Cynthia Williams, who left in July. The company reported a $41 million loss in the quarter ending June 30 and must repay $250 million in debt by September 2026 — challenges it expects to address under new leadership.  Everett Herald
  • Fred Meyer on Evergreen Way and at Casino Road in South Everett will close permanently because rising theft and high regulatory costs have made the stores unsustainable. The closures are planned for October 16th or 17th and affected staff will be offered transfers to other stores — a situation that has troubled the community — leaving local shoppers with fewer choices.  My Everett News
  • El Sid opened on Aug. 12 in downtown Everett’s historic APEX complex as an upscale cocktail bar that doubles as a daytime coffee house—its design blends 1920s Spanish Moorish style with a punk twist. Owner Johnny Carswell spent $5 million renovating the building, also home to 16 Eleven, and plans to extend hours soon to boost local nightlife.  Everett Herald

CRIME NEWS

  • Everett police investigated a stabbing at a residence on Wetmore Avenue on Sunday at around 3:30 p.m.—two men in their 40s were stabbed and transported to hospital while a suspect was taken into custody.  Everett Herald
  • Everett police responded to a stabbing at Compass Health’s Andy’s Place apartments on Lombard Ave. at 1:30 a.m. Monday when they found a wounded woman in her 60s who was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett — a man in his 60s was booked on suspicion of assault.  Everett Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Community Transit will boost bus frequencies and extend service hours on key routes starting Aug. 30—route 117 will run every 30 minutes on weekend afternoons while route 121 will operate daily. The Swift Blue, Green and Orange lines will see extended operating times and more frequent trips—improving overall rider access.  Everett Herald
  • Snohomish County’s Public Works department won a national award—recognizing its work on repairing the Index-Galena Road washed out by 2006 floods. Crews rebuilt the road between mileposts 6 and 7 in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, ending a long detour for travelers.  Everett Herald
  • Everett housing programs are in focus as Snohomish County Human Services Department is inviting nonprofit organizations, developers and agencies to apply for down payment assistance, affordable rental development and other projects with over $1 million in federal funds available for the 2026 program year—applicants must attend a virtual session on Aug 26 (1—3 p.m.) or Aug 28 (10 a.m.—12 p.m.) and submit their applications by 4 p.m. Sep 15.  Everett Herald
