- ➤ The Evergreen State Fair starts today at the fairgrounds in Monroe and runs through Labor Day except Aug. 27, offering concerts, carnival rides, rodeo events and fireworks under bright, sunny skies. Temperatures will be near 80 degrees today and near 90 this weekend—attendees are urged to drink water and use sunscreen to prevent dehydration and sunburn. Everett Post

- ➤ The Snohomish County Arts Commission announced that the first-ever Kayak Point Arts Festival will take place on Saturday, September 13 at Kayak Point Regional Park — the free event will feature six bands performing from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and invite families to bring picnic items to enjoy a day of music. - ➤ Everett Public Schools board approved a $441 million budget that adds 18 full-time educator positions — 15 for special education and 3 for basic education — to meet rising enrollment and state funding boosts. The budget also increases support for the bilingual program and funds three new electric buses as school starts on Aug. 27. Everett Herald

- ➤ Everett City Council candidate Niko Battle’s eligibility was questioned after documents showed he registered to vote on May 7, which is less than the one-year requirement, and the city’s legal team is reviewing the charter code. Battle said he has lived in Everett for over a year and signed the candidate declaration on Aug. 12—he and his opponent Alan Rubio advanced from the primary. Everett Post
- ➤ After one year of operation, city officials say Lynnwood’s new jail has cut repeat offenses and improved inmate medical care despite unexpected costs that created a $10.7 million budget gap— the facility added 36 extra beds, began a medication-assisted treatment program on July 14 using opioid funds, and signed contracts with nearby cities for inmate transfers starting August 1.
