CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Everett Police are seeking a suspect in an Aug. 1 assault on East Casino Road in South Everett—two employees were injured, one losing consciousness—and the suspect is reported as a black male in his 40s to 50s driving a silver/gray Honda Passport. Everett Post

- ➤ The Evergreen State Fair in Monroe started yesterday and sees a surge of visitors today—featuring rides, concerts, displays and special events scheduled through Labor Day. Tickets are on sale with varied rates for seniors, kids and military. My Everett News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Washington State Department of Transportation started a trial on August 20 that now allows dog owners to bring leashed dogs into all ferry passenger areas—except food galleys. The policy, which runs until February, requires that big dogs stay on the floor and small dogs remain on owners' laps—while crews may direct pets outdoors if needed for safety. My Everett News
- ➤ A South County Fire commissioner left a private part of the meeting after he said the board broke open meeting rules when they talked about moving two paramedics from Mill Creek’s Station 76; the board said the law was followed—though a vote to bring back the staff ended 3-3 and a special meeting is planned for Sept. 2. - ➤ County council members met Tuesday with leaders from District Court, Public Defense, the Sheriff’s Office and Corrections to explain a projected $26 million overspending in the budget—mainly due to extra wages, benefits and overtime. Everett Herald
- ➤ Gov. Bob Ferguson and Rep. Rick Larsen served free lunch at Lynnwood Elementary on Aug. 21 and held a listening session with families and community leaders to discuss a Congress spending bill that cut SNAP funding by 20%—local food banks have seen rising demand and tighter resources. Ferguson said he is working on a plan for universal free lunch while local groups look for other ways to support food programs. Everett Herald
- ➤ The City of Everett has opened its public comment period for the 2026 Annual Action Plan funding priorities and the 2024 CAPER draft.
