ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ At approximately 7:45 p.m. Thursday, the Everett Fire Department responded to flames on the top floor of Woodhaven Apartments at 4632 Fowler Ave in Everett—heavy black smoke was reported from the building. Eleven residents were displaced, no injuries were reported, and crews completed overhaul as investigation efforts began. My Everett News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Snohomish County arts organizations—such as the Everett Philharmonic Orchestra, Schack Art Center, and Snohomish County Music Project—received part of a $10M Community Accelerator Grant that gave them an average of $8,977 each to support fundraising and salaries. The groups may use the unrestricted funds as they wish while planning to raise an extra $2.70 for every $1 granted to boost local arts efforts. Everett Herald

- ➤ The U.S. Department of Agriculture opened public comment last Friday on its plan to rescind the 2001 Roadless Rule that protects 58 million acres including 336,000 acres in Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. If rescinded, 45 million acres—facing potential logging and road building—will be managed under a new environmental impact statement with comments accepted until Sept. 19. Everett Herald

- ➤ Anna Marie Laurence has faced PAC mailers backed by a Mill Creek family that spent $489k to challenge her position on the Everett school board—mailers that made vague claims about a robotics team and student safety that district reviews have refuted. - ➤ Snohomish County Council voted unanimously on Wednesday to donate Cavalero Hill Park—home to a basketball court, off-leash dog areas, and an 18,000-square-foot skate park added in 2020—to Lake Stevens after the city expanded its parks department. The city will evaluate further developments and maintain the park as the transfer is set to finalize in mid-to-late September. Everett Herald
