COMMUNITY NEWS

  • South Snohomish County community members gathered Thursday morning at Fallen Firefighter Memorial Park in Edmonds to mark the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks—retired firefighter Dave Erickson led the ceremony at 9:11 a.m., displaying a beam from the World Trade Center and glass tiles honoring fallen first responders. Similar memorial events took place in Everett and Marysville, as communities came together to remember the tragedy.  Everett Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A family with a Jackson High student says that adult mentors built the winning robot—prompting the school district to investigate as the family spent nearly $500K on campaigns to replace the school board. The family is offering up to $80K for evidence from students while questioning if the coach benefited from the win.  Everett Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Everett public works staff presented the draft Vision Zero plan on Wednesday, which aims to end fatal and serious injury crashes on city streets through safer road design, lower speeds, and improved pedestrian crossings. The city is accepting public feedback until Oct. 10 — the final report will be released in November.  Everett Herald
