- ➤ North Middle School celebrated its 100th anniversary on Sept. 13 when community members toured the renovated building and saw photos, tea sets, and reports from its past—teacher Susan Radford explained how these artifacts link generations. - ➤ Former Snohomish County Sheriff Adam Fortney—together with his wife Jill—has launched the Lead The Way Foundation non-profit to help local teens build leadership and resilience through a free 8-week program. The sessions for youth aged 13 to 17 will start on October 8th at 5:30 p.m. at Sno-Isle TECH Skills Center in Everett. My Everett News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Everett Fire Department responded at 12:40 p.m. on Monday, September 15 when a HazMat incident unfolded at Naval Station Everett after a suspicious package led to the evacuation of a clinic—regional HazMat teams decontaminated affected personnel and tested the substance, which proved nonhazardous—allowing the station to reopen soon after. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sno-Isle Libraries and Everett Public Library offer free after-school programs where kids and teens can get tutoring, study help, and join fun events like Teen Karaoke—programs that support learning and social interaction and work with local schools. These programs are available in various branches, including Mukilteo and the main library on Hoyt Ave. Everett Herald
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Snohomish County will host its RainScaping Expo on Saturday at Willis Tucker Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—county staff and representatives from Washington State University’s Master Gardner program will lead workshops and demonstrations on rain gardens, rainwater collection, and soil mulching while local groups manage exhibits. - ➤ The Pacific Northwest Forest Climate Alliance will host a webinar tomorrow from 5—6:30 p.m. to review the history of federal forest management and discuss how proposed policy changes may affect national forests. The event will present case studies from past timber conflicts and suggestions for future local action. Everett Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Due to state budget cuts, Snohomish County’s hotline for basic needs will move from local control to a statewide call center in Seattle on Oct. 1. Volunteers of America Western Washington will run the current service until the end of September — the system will still refer callers to local resources. Everett Herald
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Lynnwood will open a new Crisis Care Center in January 2026 — operated by Sea Mar Community Health Centers — to offer 23-hour crisis relief and later longer stays to help those facing mental health emergencies. The facility was built last spring after community members urged the city to create a safe alternative to jail or emergency rooms. Everett Herald
